Farewell Ole Solskjaer...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to announce his retirement from football today (Tuesday 28th August) after consistent knee injury problems.Ole has been a prominent figure in the United squad ever since his transfer from Molde in 1996 for a measly £1.5m, he made 366 appearances for United, scoring 126 goals. One such goal was to be the winning goal in the Champions Leage final against Bayern Munich in 1999 and whilst he didn’t play a great amount last season, still managed to score 11 goals to help United reclaim the Premiership title.Ole has spent a lot of time coaching younger players at United and was last year appointed an ambassador at the club.Ole’s retirement means that United are now left with 3 strikers, Saha, Rooney and Tevez. Carlos Tevez is the only player fit for time on the pitch at the moment.Ferguson has recently been linked with a move for Bolton’s Nicolas Anelka and Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov, although Berbatov claims his future lies with Tottenham.United have recently sold Alan Smith to Leeds and Giuseppe Rossi to Villareal.Saha was hoping to be fit enough to play against Spurs at the weekend but the comeback was aborted, testing United’s patience. He is expected to play against Sunderland at the weekend but persistant knee injuries are of major concern.Solskjaer returned to full health last season and was hopeful of playing a big role this year, despite undergoing minor knee surgery in June.Rehabilitation problems saw Ole admit that he expected this to be his last season and, unfortunately, he has been forced to announce this earlier than expected.I’m sure I speak on behalf of all United fans when I say that Ole Gunnar will be sorely missed.

United continue with slow start to season...

After Sundays lacklustre game against Reading, you would hope United would have improved their form for this evenings game against Portsmouth... A highly anticipated Tevez appearence was enough to get the majority of fans excited, surely this game we would win easily? The first 10 minutes showed Tevez highly charged and ready for a tough game, though he looked extremely lonely upfront. On the 15th minute, Nani showed his excellent close ball skills and cleverly flicked the ball onto Paul Scholes who volleyed the ball into the left hand corner bringing his total premier league goals to 96 taking him past Ruud Van Nistelrooy to be United's top premier league scoring player. All was looking good, but the remainder of the first half would be filled with non-eventful attempts. On the 53rd minute, United were struck a huge blow when Matthew Taylor crossed on a break for Portsmouth and Benjani struck his header past Edwin van der Sar, who hadn't really seen any action until then.Portsmouth with new found confidence seemed to pick up their game a little and Benjani seemed to be all over the United half, luckily nothing become of Pompey's highly energised moments.United would have further chances when Ronaldo's curling cross on 67 minutes found Giggs eight yards out, but his volley was to be saved by James. The Red Army hadn't given up and were given further hope when, with 7 minutes to go, Sulley Muntari was sent off for a second bookable offence for a foul on Michael Carrick. Sadly Ronaldo would soon go down the same route after headbutting somebody in the box before a United corner.Ronaldo missing the next 3 matches was a terrible end to a fairly awful start to the season, with the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford next match, we can't afford for the bad luck to continue!

West Ham agree to the release of Tevez...

West Ham are today expected to confirm that a deal has been reached with the Argentinian wonderboy Carlos Tevez to release him from his contract and registration. The agreement which will also need to be signed off by the FA should see West Ham getting anywhere between £1m-£3m in compensation leaving Tevez free to transfer to Manchester United before the start of the season. United have expresed a desire to take Tevez on a similar loan package as Javier Mascherano's transfer to Liverpool last season. Although the Mascherano deal took some weeks to complete, it is expected that Tevez will transfer to United much quicker as preparation has already been made by United Tevez's lawyers. I for one, can't wait to see him on the pitch at Old Trafford...

Carlos Tevez finally signs for United!

After a long time waiting, West Ham's saviour has finally been signed by United pending there are no interventions from West Ham who claim to own the registration of the player. As we reported last year, Ferguson has been very interested in Tevez and has put an offer of £20m on the table. As it stands, West Ham do not have a contract with Tevez or his owner, businessman Kia Joorabchian, which means they are free to negotiate. Tevez is also known to have been a fan of United's, he was once fined whilst playing for corinthians after turning up at an official press conference wearing a Manchester United shirt. Tevez will fly from Argentina to join United in their pre-season programme. He just cannot contain his excitement at the news, a source close to the Argentina camp confirmed. Tevez has been concerned about his future, worried about where he may play next season and now he is joining the biggest club in the world! This is massive news. United have already signed Portuguese winger Nani and Brazilian midfielder Anderson on five-year contracts. Owen Hargreaves has also completed his move from Bayern Munich, the 3 players costing a total £50m. With Tevez joining, United will have spent a massive £70m, making them the biggest spenders in world football. Tevez is also said to be good friends with Gabriel Heinze who is rumoured to be leaving United to join Real Madrid for £5m, it is reported that Heinze was unhappy about being second best to Patrice Evra last season. With such uneventful transfers last season, Fergie seems to have made up for it this time round...
