They say Rome wasn't built in a day, but watching Alex Fergusons red & white army destroy their football team in just 90 minutes makes you wonder whether or not the Italian historians have their facts about as straight as a meatball tagliatelli. It took just over 10 mins for the pillars of Rome to begin to crumble after Michael Carrick put United in front with a wonderful macaroni-esque strike into the top corner. For the next 10 minutes United ran spaghetti hoops around the Roma XI with 2 more goals from Alan Smith and Wayne Rooney. The remainder of the half saw the Italian 'Stallions' made to look more like a brigade of Fiat puntos as opposed to 11 long-haired Lamborghinis. To end this humiliating first half, Ronaldo scored an inevitable goal, placing the ball just clear of the near post; bringing the score to 4-0. For the second half, Roma must have felt like christians being fed to the lions as Ronaldo, Carrick and Evra put a further 3 goals past an already embarassed Doni, who it seems may/may not have been stood in a huge puddle of olive oil. Roma did manage to scrounge a consolation goal, but it did little to worry the red devils who were hell bent to carry on fiddling as 70,000 Manchester United fans watched Rome burn to the ground. United 7 - Roma 1
